Congressman-Elect Meehan Lands Chairmanship of Key Homeland Security Subcommittee

December 20th

MEDIA, PA - Congressman-elect Pat Meehan (R-PA/7) announced today that he has been appointed as chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence by U.S. Rep. Peter T. King (R-NY), Chairman-elect of the Committee on Homeland Security.

"I am very pleased to make this appointment.  I know that Pat is steadfastly committed to protecting our homeland from the terrorists who continue to plot and execute attacks against our nation.  Pat, one of the rare freshman Members of Congress to assume a committee leadership role, is immensely qualified to lead the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence," said Congressman King.  "As the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for nearly seven years, Pat has demonstrated his commitment to protecting Americans from terrorism.  He was sworn in just six days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and quickly established an Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council to protect the region and prepare first responders for a terror attack.  I look forward to working with Pat to combat the ongoing terrorist threats facing our homeland."

"I am honored to be appointed as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence on the Committee on Homeland Security.  The issues that this subcommittee will address are many of the issues I dealt with intimately as U.S. Attorney.  I look forward to the opportunities this assignment will present as we look to tackle the many homeland security challenges our country faces," said Meehan.

In addition to the Committee on Homeland Security, Congressman-elect Pat Meehan will serve on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Committee on Small Business.
