Congressman-Elect Meehan Announces Committee Assignments
December 17th
MEDIA, PA - Congressman-elect Pat Meehan (R-PA/7) announced today his committee assignments for the 112th Congress. During the committee selection process, Meehan served on the House Republican Steering Committee which serves to place all Republican members on committees and votes on all committee chairmen. Meehan also represented his freshman class of 87 congressmen-elect in the selection process to advocate for their interests on committees.
"I am extremely pleased with these assignments. Each of these committees afford me with the opportunity to focus on the priorities that I discussed during the campaign: rooting out waste, fraud and abuse in government; considering legislation that will keep our country safe; and implementing policies to improve our economy and outlook for small business owners," said Meehan.
The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction to investigate any federal program and any matter with federal policy implications.
The Committee on Homeland Security was created by the U.S. House of Representatives in the aftermath of September 11, 2001 to provide Congressional oversight over the development of the Department of Homeland Security.
The Committee on Small Business is charged with assessing and investigating the problems of small businesses and examining the impact of general business practices and trends on small businesses. The Committee has oversight and legislative authority over the Small Business Administration (SBA) and its programs and provides protection for small businesses.
