Congressman Meehan Applauds House Passage of Short Term Continuing Resolution

March 1st

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Patrick Meehan (PA-07) today released the following statement regarding House passage of H.J. Res. 44, the Fiscal Year 2011 Further Continuing Resolution (CR), which funds the federal government through March 18, 2011:

“Today the House took appropriate action to prevent a government shutdown, while cutting $4 billion in federal spending,” said Congressman Meehan. “I joined my colleagues in approving the short term CR, however I remain committed to a more long term solution.  It is unfortunate that H.R. 1, a bill previously passed by the House which funds the government for the remainder of the fiscal year, has not yet been acted on in the Senate.  The legislation contains billions of dollars in cuts to federal spending and creates a better environment for job creation.”

“It is no secret that our nation’s spending-driven debt crisis must come to an end,” said Congressman Meehan.   “In order to put our country on the road to economic growth and job creation, we must restore fiscal discipline in Washington.”

H.J.Res. 44 passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 335 to 91, and must now be considered by the U.S. Senate.
