Congressman Meehan on One Year Anniversary of Enactment of Health Care Law

March 25th

Springfield, PA - U.S. Congressman Patrick Meehan (PA-07) today released the following statement regarding the one year anniversary of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) being signed into law:

"The most important priority of this Congress is to revive our economy and create good, sustainable jobs.  We must oppose any policies that obstruct that effort.  That is why, within the first few weeks of this Congress, I joined 244 of my colleagues in passing a bill to repeal the contentious government-run health care law.

“One year after the health care bill was signed into law, we are still no closer to containing medical costs or decreasing skyrocketing premiums.  A law that promised more affordable care has not delivered on those promises, because the mandate on states, small businesses, and individuals is much too high.

“I believe in replacement options like pooling of risk, competition across state lines, medical liability reform and greater flexibility for states to administer Medicaid programs all need to be given real consideration.  I intend to continue pursuing real, workable solutions that will reduce costs and make healthcare more accessible – while continuing to focus on creating jobs and growing the economy.”
