Heading into Election Day, Pat Meehan Reiterates his Commitment to Improving Economy
November 1st
DREXEL HILL, PA - At a round table meeting today at The Iron Shop in Broomall, Pat Meehan, candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional district, talked with small business owners about his commitment to work on policies that will create jobs and improve our economy if elected to Congress.
Since announcing for Congress more than a year ago, Pat Meehan has visited dozens of small businesses and has been focused on discussing policies he believes will improve the economy. In September, Pat announced his Roadmap to Economic Recovery, and today's roundtable provided one last opportunity for Pat Meehan to discuss these policies with many of the small business owners he's heard from over the course of this campaign.
"I've traveled all across the district visiting small businesses, senior centers, grocery stores, manufacturing facilities, union halls - you name it, I've been there. And regardless of where I've been, the message has been the same: We need to create jobs and we need to improve the economy," said Pat Meehan. "As voters to go to the polls tomorrow, I want voters to know that my commitment to improving the economy has not wavered. I will go to Washington and get to work immediately on the issues that I believe will help put our economy back on the right track."
"During my visits to small businesses across the 7th District, I have heard about the challenges facing business owners who are struggling to meet their payroll and pay their bills. I have also heard from working families who are struggling to do more with less and are constantly re-evaluating their own family budgets in this difficult economic climate. To create jobs we need to understand and recognize who the real job creators are, and contrary to the beliefs of the current administration and Congress it is not the federal government," Meehan continued.
"Congress spent billions of dollars in stimulus money to bail out big banks and financial institutions. They provide targeted relief to certain hand-picked industries, which put the federal government in the position of picking winners and losers. But your average small business owner simply has not seen the benefits. These are the people who are creating the jobs. Small businesses are going to help put us on a path towards economic prosperity," said Meehan.
"Simply put - the policies coming out of Washington are not working, and we need to work together to find solutions that will put our economy back on the right track. Excessive spending, burdensome regulations, mounting debt, and looming tax increases are hurting small business, hurting workers and hurting families. I want to go to Washington to help our economy thrive again, and I believe that with the right policies in place we can start to make the changes that will help our small businesses grow and create more jobs," Meehan concluded.
In September, Pat Meehan unveiled his Roadmap to Economic Recovery. The policies that he announced then are the policies he will go to Washington to fight for. Policies such as:
- Institute a payroll tax holiday for a period of 6 months.
- Reduce the capital gains tax to encourage investment, particularly on investments made during the start up phase of a business.
- Provide tax credits for businesses hiring their first or second employee.
- Encourage investment in America.
- Extend all tax relief from the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts.
- Eliminate the death tax that hurts family-owned businesses.
- Repeal and replace healthcare reform. b
