Meehan Files Nominating Petitions in Race for Congress
DREXEL HILL, PA – Pat Meehan, a former Delaware County District Attorney and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, has formally filed his nominating petitions to be placed on the ballot as a Republican candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District.
Candidates for U.S. Congress are required so submit a minimum of 1,000 valid signatures from registered voters in their respective party to be placed on the primary ballot in May. Meehan submitted a total of 3,627 signatures – well above the minimum requirements -- from registered voters of Delaware, Chester, and Montgomery Counties who reside within the 7th District.
“I greatly appreciate the support of our local committee people, who always work hard this time of the year to obtain signatures to place candidates on the ballot,” said Meehan. “I was also thankful to the 70 local residents – individuals not typically involved in local party organizations – who volunteered their time to circulate petitions on my behalf. For a number of these individuals, it represented the first time they have circulated petitions for a candidate. We are seeing new supporters come out every day to become involved in our campaign’s effort to make a difference in Washington, DC.”
“We are extremely concerned about the current direction of our country,” said Meehan. “People want to see an end to continued deficit spending and mounting national debt. They believe raising taxes in the current economic environment while hurt working families and seniors. And they want a concerted effort to stimulate the economy and create jobs – not hand out more taxpayer dollars to benefit special interests and big banks. Working together, we are going to get this country back on the right track.”
