White House Considers Meehan Tax Proposal

Washington Post reports Obama considering payroll tax holiday to spur employment
September 3rd

DREXEL HILL, PA - Late last night, the Washington Post reported that the Obama administration is "seriously weighing" a package of tax breaks on businesses designed to spur hiring and create jobs. The report preceded today's announcement that the unemployment rate again increased to 9.6%.

"It's about time that the Obama administration realizes that tax cuts for small businesses and consumers are the best way to spur job growth," said Meehan for Congress campaign manager Bryan Kendro. "Almost two years of big-government and big-spending policies have left our nation with a stagnating economy, high unemployment and enormous deficits."

Included in the policies the Obama administration is reportedly considering is a temporary payroll tax holiday, a measure Pat Meehan originally proposed in February.  A payroll tax holiday will put cash into the pockets of consumers and spur demand for the products and services provided by small businesses across the country.

Up to this point, Meehan's opponent, Bryan Lentz, has been skeptical, if not outright critical, of a payroll tax holiday. In an op-ed in the Delaware County Daily Times, Lentz refers to the payroll tax holiday as an "artificial incentive to hire."

"Voters deserve to know Bryan Lentz's stance on the proposed payroll tax holiday," Kendro continued. "Will Lentz continue to deny the merits of Pat Meehan's job creation proposal supported even within the White House, or will he use the Administration's political cover to come out in support of a measure Pat Meehan has been advocating for months?"
