A former federal prosecutor and county D.A., Congressman Pat Meehan has made fighting for the issues important to women a hallmark of his career.

As a prosector, Pat pioneered innovative new programs to help prevent domestic violence. Operation “Cut it Out” trained hairstylists – who see their clients at regular intervals without their boyfriend or husband present – to recognize and report signs of domestic violence. This groundbreaking initiative has led to the training of hundreds of hair stylists and has saved countless women from abuse. Since coming to Congress, Pat has taken the lessons he learned fighting domestic violence as a prosecutor and applied them to crafting legislation to further protect women from harm. 

He’s lead the fight for a bipartisan reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, federal legislation that provides numerous protections for and services to the victims of domestic violence. He knows how critical these measures are to protecting women, and he’s become a nationwide leader in the effort to extend this vital legislation.

Congressman Meehan has used his experience working to prevent violence on our college campuses to craft the Protecting Victims on Campus Act of 2012, legislation that clarifies and expands regulations about reporting on-campus violence.

Pat has continued to fight for policies that support hardworking families. He supported an extension of the payroll tax holiday, protecting some 300,000 7^th District residents from a tax hike. He’s working to cut wasteful government spending that threatens our children’s future prosperity, and he’s promoting pro-growth economic policies that create jobs and expand opportunities for families.
